February Blessings: Friday's Fave Five

Friday February 18, 2011

Time for a rundown of my favorite things from this week. Once again, a great time to look back and count your blessings! Thanks to Susanne from Living to Tell the Story for hosting. Visit Susanne and join us.

Here are five of my week’s blessings:

1. Cooking for two. I think I'm finally beginning to learn how to do it. (Of course, if you've cooked for six for ages, it's not so hard. You just make that big recipe and divide it in thirds!) There are other little culinary adjustments, though, and it's beginning to come a bit more naturally. Boys, if you're reading -- don't worry. Mom will still remember how to gear it up when you're here!

2. Some sunlight on the job scene. For one son, there's an opportunity that looks very encouraging. And for the youngest, he just got the campus job in his major that he really wanted. I lift my eyes and say, "Thank you, thank you!"

3. Writing anticipation. I am SO looking forward to my annual writers conference in a couple of weeks. It's always so encouraging, challenging, and inspiring -- and I get to see so many writer friends (my four Kindred Heart writer friends in particular).

4. Family anticipation. Yes, I get to do some baby-holding in the coming days. I just can't wait! In fact, we're going to get to see a bunch of them (we'll miss you, California Boy) at once.

5. A quote. This one reminds me to look everywhere for beauty and to remember its Source.

Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything that is beautiful; for beauty is God's handwriting -- a wayside sacrament. We welcome it in every fair face, in every fair sky, in every fair flower, and thank God for it as a cup of blessing. (Ralph Waldo Emerson)

"A wayside sacrament." "A cup of blessing." What beautiful words and images.

Hope you have a great week ahead -- and enjoy the extra day off, if you have one.

Cooking for two was an adjustment after cooking for five. I kept finding myself just wanting to go out to dinner, but that wasn't practical.

Great news on the job front.

Have fun at the conference -- and baby-holding!

That's great news about your son and the potential job!! I"ll pray! And enjoy that grandbaby!! I actually have more than an extra day off...we have the whole week off. Schools in our part of NYS have what is called Winter Break although I'd much rather get out a week earlier in June....but...I have plans to paint the living room so will be busy....enjoy your weekend and upcoming writers conference!

I say cook for six and eat lots of leftovers! That's what I tend to do anyway.

That last quote is beautiful, and so true.

Looks like there is lots to look forward to for you coming up!

Saying a prayer for your son and his job opportunity.

I thought going from cooking for 5 to cooking for 4 was hard. LOL. I say cook for six and freeze the two thirds so you have nights you don't have to worry about it.
