My Backyard

Thursday May 5, 2011

It's a little plot -- nothing like the acre that was my childhood backyard.
But it's quiet and green, albeit rather suburban.
The fence is fresh and new.
The new lawn furniture is cushy.

It's a simple pleasure, to step out my back door.
But it's away.

I don't take the phone out.
I leave the laptop behind.

It's a bit of a sanctuary -- a place to think, to breathe, to escape even if for only a half hour.

As I stumbled upon the second half of a familiar verse last week, I discovered that what begins in my backyard doesn't end there. You've heard "Be still and know that I am God." But the verse goes on: "I will be exalted in the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." (Psalm 46:10)

That peace that begins in my backyard? I carry it with me, as much as possible. And when I do, it reflects my Source. My peace exalts Him!

So, I'll see you tomorrow -- I'm out the back door.

I was thinking just this morning, as I strolled around my backyard, it is a sanctuary, a place where God is exalted and obvious. Thanks for sharing this today.

I enjoy our side deck and our screened-in back porch.

I'm somewhat intense (according to my darlin' husband) so it's great to have a place to unwind.

Intense. Now could he mean by that?

Sweet dreams.

This is particularly pleasurable to me because I feel as if I live in a fish bowl. My back yard is not that much more private than my front, and I have so often neglected to enjoy it for that reason. Lately, I've been imagining a spot back there that is just mine where I can feel free to sit and drink it in.

This inspires me to really put some action to that vision.

And I love the way you exalt Him in your peace. Just beautiful.
