A Fall Friday: Friday's Fave Five

Friday September 30, 2011

Can you name five blessings from your week? Susanne from Living to Tell the Story hosts Friday’s Fave Five each week. Click on over and see her if you’d like to join in!

Here are my favorites from this week:

1. Wearing fall colors. You know the rules—no white after Labor Day, etc. Well, here in South Florida, we pretty much ignore all of those. But I’m a Midwestern girl through and through, and when the calendar says September, I’m reaching for the deep greens, the russets, the rich browns (even if it’s ninety degrees outside, which is is…). I love wearing my fall colors. Maybe it’s the redhead in me.

2. A coming cold front…or should I say, cool front. You probably wouldn’t consider it cold, but it’ll feel that way to us. Can’t wait for a little cooldown this weekend.

3. October anticipation. Some fun things coming up in October. This is my birth month, and my hubby has some secret plans. And I’m going to a conference late in the month that I’m so excited about!

4. Kind, patient people. My mom is a spry eighty-six years old—still living in her own house and driving short distances. I hate being so far away from her and we talk twice a week. I love it when she tells me about the nurse, the physician’s assistant, the friend, the neighbor who sits and talks. Doesn’t rush, is in no hurry, and really listens. Thanks, kind and patient ones, for being there for my mom and others like her.

5. An autumn quote.

“Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.” (Albert Camus)

Those piles of leaves, the barren trees—do they look depressing to you? Well, think of it this way. Each pile is potential. Those leaves enrich, nourish the future. What we see as the end of a cycle, He uses to begin again.

Happy Friday, Happy Fall!

Nice to think positivite things about fall, not my favorite time. We don't follow white after Labor Day up north anymore either. LOL

So you bring Autumn to Florida. That's good; they need seasons too. :-) We're heading to Gulf Shores next weekend so even though it won't be as warm as South Florida, hopefully it will be warmer than north Alabama. (I'm such a wimp with cold weather.)

Wonder what your birthday surprise will be! How exciting. Hope it makes a Friday's Fave Five soon.

I don't look at the barren trees as depressing. I look at the wonderful colored leaves to crunch and jump through with the kids. At the wonderful smells coming from them. Barren trees have a certain beauty all their own. Can you tell I love fall? And I love wearing the fall colors too and I'm not a red head. :vD

Oh I love that quote! i had that as my status on Facebook last autumn! :) And I love autumn and every thing about it. Today, in my part of NYS, is the first day that it has "felt" like fall....it's a bit cooler, etc. GUESS WHAT! i am now working as a TA full time hours back with children I actually have experience with (language delayed, mild autism, mild MR, and emotionally disturbed. Same school, same hours plus 2 extra ones, different team BUT the team i was praying about!!). just had to share that here...i just got the call :)

My preference is lighter, springy colors, but I do lie changing the closet over for the seasons -- almost like getting new clothes, or seeing old friends.

We just had a cool front move in -- temps in the 60s are heavenly to me.

Sounds like an exciting month coming up!

I'm encouraged and gladdened when I hear of someone being kind and patient with my m-i-l. too.

That's a beautiful quote!

With your coloring, the fall colors must look terrific on you!

So glad there are faithful friends who are 'there' for your mom when you cannot be.

I'm very curious about the surprise your hubby has planned for your birthday!

We do appreciate kind people don't we? And even more when they are kind to our loved ones.

Hope your cooler weather comes soon! I think we are all ready for it.

The Fall colors are my favorites, too. I love switching to Fall decor and sweaters. I'll bet you look fantastic in the green, brown, and reddish colors. Your quote is perfect. I love your quote. The amazing burst of colors each fall is a sight to behold. Like the fire of the Phoenix.
I'm glad your mom has people looking out for her.
Enjoy the cooler weather, and the anticipation of your birthday surprises. :)

Hmmm, my comment evidently didn't register...
As I said,
Autumn is the season of second chances.
I'm so glad your mom has those kind and thoughtful people around her. I remember the kindness of the nurses who helped care for my dad.

Good morning Laura, I like picturing you wearing Fall colours, tramping in piles of "enriching" leaves anticipating your birthday surprise. :) I am going to a conference too. Mine is a Priscilla Shirer event at the end of the month. Blessings.

I'll bet you look stunning in those fall colors. I tend toward the deep purples, blues and tones of winter. But I wear them all year 'round. :)
