An Answer Full of Hope

“How in the world did this ever happen?”

Have you ever asked that—about your marriage, your child, your own life?

At that point, it's hard to imagine how that happy marriage, that perfect child, that close relationship with God ever went awry.

More likely than not, it’s all about the concept of harvest.

Galatians 6:7 tells us, “God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.”

Our choices—what we do and say—they matter.

Too often it’s an accumulation of little things said and done (or NOT said and done) over the years that takes us to that place.

But wait—there’s more! I do love the gospel’s redemption theme.

That concept of harvest can work for us, too. In case you’re asking yourself, “How in the world can I ever get back,” Psalm 1:3-4 has an answer full of hope:

“He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.”

Just as the tree sends its roots down to that rich soil, we can be rooted in God’s grace and His word. Fruit from Him will come in due season, and our marriage and family and life will be enriched by it.

Like a tree planted by the streams—that’s what I want to be.
Planted close to His life-giving stream, reaching down into the soil of His love and grace.

A hopeful place.

Loved this, Laura!! I did a post once based on Psalm 1. I love how God uses nature to get our attention at times throughout the Scriptures....this psalm has always resonated with me. Thank you for your thoughts on this!! and a hearty AMEN!! if this is on FB, I will 'share" it as I know some friends who could use this encouragement. Enjoy your evening!

And I know that for that tree to send down deep roots, it will have to be tested by the storms and winds of life's trials. The good and the bad, He uses all of it to make us better--more like Him, doesn't He, Laura Lee?! I'm with you on wanting to be that big, strong tree that's totally dependent upon Him alone. Thanks for this inspiring encouragement to send down deep roots into Christ!
