Sounds, Sights, Words, and Hugs: Friday's Fave Five

Friday March 26, 2010 I love Friday’s Fave Five, hosted here. It’s a great exercise in mining blessings. At the end of a week – be it good, bad, crazy or awful – I can always look back and extract at least five things that I can be thankful for.

Here’s my FFF list for this past week:

1. Warm salt water. Yeah, I know that sounds odd, but I gargled with it (with a touch of baking soda) the other night and it seemed to relieve my scratchy throat. Last Sunday’s little tickle in the back of the throat led to Monday’s almost nonexistent voice, which plagued me for a couple days. I think it’s getting some better, and I’m thankful I don’t feel worse.

2. Singing. I love to sing! And I haven’t been able to sing along with the radio this week. I’ve missed that. You know how, when something is gone, you realize you miss it? Well, that’s how I’ve felt about singing along with the radio this week.

3. Flowers.
I got a big bunch of beautiful (mostly pink) flowers over a week ago, and I have thoroughly enjoyed them. (There’s not much pink in my house, you know…) A couple of days ago, I took them out and discarded a few bedraggled blooms, clipped off the ends of the stems, refreshed the water, and I still have a lovely bunch. What a day brightener!

4. Inspiring women. March is National Women’s History Month, so there’s plenty to be inspired by there. A writer’s blog I share with four wonderful women is featuring women writers this month, and that has been so much fun. I profiled Madeleine L’Engle this week, and I just love her quote I included. Go see! And I have so many inspiring women around me – in my daily life and in my blogging life. I’m thankful for you!

5. Welcome Home’s and Au Revoir’s. One son arrived home safely from a mission trip to Mexico, and for that I’m thankful. Another is getting ready to take off to Europe with his choir from school, and he’ll be gone a week. We’ll be praying for him and missing him this week – and we’re thankful for such a great opportunity for him!

I hope you can find at least five bright spots in this past week, too. Leave a comment and share with us.

Happy weekend!

You have a bit of a revolving door at your house just now! I am glad the one got home safely and trust the other one will as well.

With all the sore throats we had around here the last few weeks, why didn't I think of warm salt water? Will have to keep that in mind for next time, which I hope is a long time coming.

I love to sing around the house and in the car, too. Hope you throat and voice are better soon!

I love getting fresh flowers! Especially pink ones!

Glad you got some relief from that scratchy throat. Those trips are so great for kids. Such a great education!
My nephews were in Mexico during Spring break building houses. We were happy that they made it in and out safely.
Have a wonderful weekend...

I also use salt, but I have never added baking soda. I will have to try that. I hope you feel better soon. I love to worship but I can not carry a tune. :) But I hope you can sing along real soon as well. How nice to have your son back, I hope his trip went well!

Its exciting to see the kids come and go with all of their activities, and then hear their experiences.

I use warm salt water gargles too, and I use it after the dentist as well.

It's great that your boys are having such exciting adventures. They get a larger world view.

Have a happy weekend!

Hope you're feeling much better now. That will be one of my blessings, to know that you are well. Warm weather, car that still runs and shrimp po-boys that my hubbie brought home for lunch today. :)

I do the same way with flowers if I have them. I want them to stay as room brighteners for as long as they could :) It's great to hear the scratchy throat is relieved, your son is back and another one is going; lots of positive things going on. How wonderful to be surrounded with inspiring women!

Love flowers too, fresh flowers can really brighten a room this time of year!! Oh I do wish I could sing...but glad to hear you enjoy it! :) Wow your boys are really on the go. Glad your son made it home from Mexico, God probably used it greatly in his life. :)

I hope you feel better soon! How lovely that your flowers have lasted so long.

Your house sounds quite busy right now with the coming and goings, but what wonderful opportunities you are allowing your boys to be a part of.

Ooh, I'm looking forward to reading your profile on M.L'Engle. Glad the salt/soda gargle has helped. Seems like a small thing, but a scratchy throat can be so distracting.

Great fave fives. Isn't it great how simple a thing as salt water can help so much? I love singing to the radio or CD as well. I don't care who hears me or sees me. It's fun, it's harmless (unless my voice is really bad and I'm killing wild life as I drive by) and it relieves stress.

I had no idea salty water could cure a scratchy throat, I learned something new again today!
How wonderful to get a bunch of flowers that last so long! Mexico, Europe, looks like your kids are real globe trotters! Isn't that great?
Have a great weekend!

Hey, thanks for stopping by my place. The follow up book to Same Kind of Difference as me is "What Difference Do It Make?". It shares what has transpired since the first book came out. I am looking forward to seeing what kind of ministering has developed and taken place. I hope you are feeling a bit better since the last time I was here. :)

It sounds like you've had a full week. I'm glad your throat is recovering. Ginger tea is excellent for scratchy voiceless throats too!

My fave this week is that even in the midst of difficulties, blessings can abound.

Thank you for visiting my blog!
