Simple Moments

Thursday January 13, 2010

It was a holiday filled with simple moments.

No fancy ski resort or lavishly decorated home, not even a bedroom for all of those sleeping there. But it was filled with love.

Once you went to bed, you were pretty much landlocked. No getting up and wandering about the house or you’d likely trip on an air mattress or someone’s suitcase. And joy was all over the place.

We gathered everyone at my eighty-five year old mom’s home and decorated for her – a group effort. Simple moments came again as we took it all down and restored her house to normal.

The simplest of my pleasures this holiday was a snapshot in my mind. My four sons, gathered round the eldest’s three-month-old son. Oh, the love that little boy has in store for him! Uncles galore.

I carry that simple moment in my mind and heart. Sometimes simplest moments are simply the best.

Have you had a simple moment that still brings you joy?

Our family get-togethers also tend to be informal. When my sister's family visits, we dispense with the fancy dinners and bring home pizza. It makes the time we spend together about the company, rather than about the food.

One of my mental snapshots is of my son and his cousin when they were about 14-18 months old. The way they worked together to solve a "problem" was so special.

Laura,
Thanks for reminding us to focus on the simple moments. My simple moment? Snuggling with my girls without planning the next thing on my to-do list.

A huge YES over this one from my neck of the woods. I can't think of anything that gives me any more pleasure than spending time with family. If the family is all "holed" up in one place? All the better!

My simple moment over the holidays was just being able to teach my girls about the needs of others. It was such a rewarding process!

So happy for your joy!

Oh Laura,

What a beautiful picture your words painted in my mind...a time filled with love and sharing with each other. Focusing completely on someone else that couldn't do for herself...what a lovely thought. What a pleasure that must have truly brought you and yours...

Thank you for stopping by the cottage and leaving me such a sweet comment...

What a beautiful family memory you've created. And you will love being a grandma as much a being a mom...without feeling guilty for spoiling them.
