February Blessings: Friday's Fave Five

Friday February 11, 2011

Time for a rundown of my favorite things from this week. Once again, a great time to look back and count your blessings! Thanks to Susanne from Living to Tell the Story for hosting. Visit Susanne and join us.

Here are five of my week’s blessings:

1. Friends I can confide in. I love working with people I love, and several of them are great listeners. We listen to each other, encourage each other, pray for each other. It’s awesome.

2. My Chipper dog. I’m a dog person, and we got Chipper about 16 years ago. He’s slowing down quite a bit, but he’s in pretty good shape for his age. I’m happy to find him waiting at home for me every day. This house is very quiet sometimes, and Chip is a great companion.

3. Pictures of my grandson Aiden. He’s 5 months old now! Look at that smile.

4. A sweet husband who’s helping me tend our garden. You can read about that here.

5. A quote. If you’ve read here for awhile, you know I’m a lover of literature. I came across this quote recently and I loved it.

Literature adds to reality, it does not simply describe it. It enriches the necessary competencies that daily life requires and provides; and in this respect, it irrigates the deserts that our lives have already become. (C.S. Lewis)

Literature adds to reality, irrigating our deserts. It’s really true for me. I love a good book and its lessons. I hope you do, too!

Wow, Aiden is growing fast! Seems as though he was just born!

I can relate about the companionship of a dog. I especially appreciated that when I lived alone, but I still miss it sometimes.

Ah, yes, C.S. Lewis! An old friend. :) So much to be thankful for...it is such a gift to love the people you work with each day. Makes every day special. I'm blessed in that regard, too! Enjoy your weekend.

I’m confident that the people who work with you say the same thing about YOU, Laura. I know you are a ray of sunshine at your school.

Aiden is growing up! He is a doll. He’s about a month younger than my only grand-nephew, who I absolutely adore. It’s so fun to “have babies” again (without having to!).

Literature irrigates my deserts too. Thanks for always sharing such meaningful quotes with us.

I love that description of what literature does.

What a cutie that grandson of yours is. Love the idea they have of the age sign.

I can most relate to two of your blessings: an old friend in a dog and a garden. I have the old companionable dog and sorely miss gardening. I live in an apt now and the shady patio does not lend itself to gardening.

Love seeing the pictures of your precious grandson.

That is such a great picture of Aiden! Makes me want to kiss his neck. :)

I also have an older dog and while he has slowed down quite a bit, his spirit is still very willing. Truly love him.

Has it been 5 months already? What a neat idea to have something marking the time IN the photo.

Great friends are a treasure.

I'm glad your little dog is still in good shape.

I ordered the Book Lover's Devotional and just received it yesterday -- can't wait to start it!

yup...totally love a good book and the lessons it teaches. I'm currently in a personal study book that is teaching me, or reminding me, of specific Biblical truths that I often take for granted or "forget" about....love your list and that grandson is just a cutie!! Have a great weekend.....

Aiden is such a cutie pie.
It is a blessing to have a bunch of great friends to confide in.
We have a family dog who is 8 years old and this weekend a puppy St. Bernard will be joining the family. He will be crate trained and I went with my daughter to get a kennel and can't believe the size of it. can't wait till Sunday to meet the new brute.
