Counting Backwards

Thursday May 19, 2011

My simple pleasure this week?

Counting backwards from three. Three more days, that is -- today.

Three more days in the classroom.

Lest you think me a heartless teacher, simply imagine my high school classroom, packed with teens bursting with anticipation for summer. I love them, but oh, my -- they DO want to be out.
Our exams begin on Tuesday, so it's three more days of the classroom routine. Trying to teach, trying to review, trying to contain...

Yearbooks everywhere. "Can I go...?" over and over. They just want out.

But today, I was reminded that each day has its purpose -- whether it's Day #1, 2, 3 or 98. Because there are still needs, hurts, kids that need to be loved. I have a dear student facing unspeakable tragedy and all I could do today was hug her and promise to pray for her.

Every day has its purpose.
May I not wish them all away, but see them as pleasures.

I'm posting today over at the Moms of Boys Society - Growing Respect in Your Sons. Come see! And I'm linking up today with Dayle for Simple Pleasures.

Last day today for me and though I'm relieved and exhausted I will miss those Little Ones terribly. Bless you, Laura, for what you do and how you love your students.

Laura, that shows how much they love you as a teacher-to confide. But I know you are as excited as they are. Teachers do need breaks!

I *get* this one completely! I remember the days when I worked full time, and I was so exhausted by the last week of school and in need of a break.

I hope your summer is restful and wonderful, and I'm sorry that your student had a tragedy.

Oh how I understand!
I work in a High School, also!
We have a few more weeks.
But I am excited to be where you are right now!
