An A for August: Friday's Fave Five

Friday August 5, 2011 Can you name five blessings from your week? Susanne from Living to Tell the Story hosts Friday’s Fave Five each week. Click on over and see her if you’d like to join in!

Well, August gets “A’s” from me so far. Here are my favorites (my “A’s”) for this week.

1. A first classroom.
I mentioned before that my son has his first teaching job. I’m so excited for him! He texted me pictures of his door, his name on the Math faculty sign, and his classroom today. Our visit with him and that special young lady earlier this week was great. I had so much fun doing a little shopping for each of their first classrooms and surprising them each with a little package.

2. A fall conference. I attend a writers conference in March each year, and I just found out I get to go to another conference this fall. I’m pretty excited!

3. A little encouragement. I got a smidgen of publisher encouragement about my nonfiction book proposal. It hasn’t made all the hurdles yet, but I’m hoping and praying it will.

4. A back-to-school sale. I stumbled on a great sale this week and came home with quite a few new things for school—for a great price.

5. A great quote—about Abundance.

“It is a solemn thing, and no small scandal in the Kingdom, to see God’s children starving while actually seated at the Father’s table.” (A.W. Tozer)

Abundance at our Father’s hand, surrounding us at His table. All we have to do is throw off the solemnity and the scandal, draw near, and partake!

I know I’m going over 5, but I have to mention that, here in South Florida, we’re pretty thankful that Emily has broken up and won’t be kicking up a storm after all!

Hope you have an A-rated week ahead.

Yipee! Who doesn't love a smidge of encouragement? So glad the publisher was positive about your nonfiction proposal.

Also, a fall conference? Yipee again.

Have a great weekend, Laura.

Love your twist on FFF this week.

This has been a great week for school-related sales! Glad you found some good deals.

How sweet for a teacher to see a son setting up to teach!

The writer's conference sounds great -- looking forward to hearing more about it.

Congrats on the encouragement from your publisher! That has to be a thrill.

Love the quote from Tozer - I'm becoming a real fan of his.

A first classroom is so exciting - this is my daughter's third year teaching, but I remember her excitement in decorating her first room!

I love the fresh start of a new school year even though it doesn't really effect me anymore.

Powerful quote! Wow.

How fun for your son, and for you, to set up a new classroom. That is the part of teaching that appealed to me. But the only part, so it's a good thing I didn't choose teaching for a profession;) I'm grateful for those who choose the profession and have a passion for it! Many thanks to your son.

You are totally allowed an extra fave when it's about NOT having a hurricane blow through Florida.
You have had A lovely And Adventurous August Already! And hurray for the publisher encouragement!

Hi Laura, "A" cute and imaginative way to do your FFF. ;)

How sweet of you to present supplies to the new teachers. I bet your son and his girlfriend were touched. Hopefully when teaching gets a bit rough this year, they look at something you bought and feel your love and encouragement.

Also glad that Emily played nice! Have a great week.

How fun to help jazz up your son's first classroom. It's so neat that he would send you pictures of things like his name on the list and of the classroom door.

It was nice of Emily to calm herself. :)
I love your list, and your "A"'s!
It must be exciting to be a published author. You're a wonderful writer. The conference should be fun!
I hope your son has a wonderful year. (and his beau, too!)
Thanks for the quote..
