Blessings and Beginnings

December 30, 2011 Listing five wonderful things about the past week will only scratch the surface. It’s been a lovely week full of time, celebration, and family.

Can you name five blessings from your week? Susanne from Living to Tell the Story hosts Friday’s Fave Five each week. Click on over to get the details and join us. It's a great way to start the new year.

Here's my list of favorites for the past week: (I'll be writing about more of this week's favorites next week!)

1. Having two of our four boys home. We missed the rest of the family, but it was great to have our two youngest home. (Christmas Eve was quite the adventure, complete with no power in half the house and no water. Tune in next week for the story! We still had a great time.)

2. Knowing our other two boys were celebrating, too. Our oldest enjoyed Christmas at home with his little family in Kentucky and then took off for his wife’s parents’ home. Our California boy spent several days with his cousin and family a couple of hours away, complete with kids and Santa. Sounded like a great time.

3. Built-in help. I have a project underway, and my husband and youngest son provided expert help tonight. I’m so thankful for their expertise and their willingness to make it happen!

4. New dishes! It’s been quite a while since I got new dishes, and there was a new set for me under the tree this year. I’m so excited! I just love them.
5. A New Year quote:

“For last year’s words belong to last year’s language
And next year’s words await another voice.
And to make an end is to make a beginning.”
(T.S. Eliot)

I love this forward-looking quote. “To make an end is to make a beginning” – I love that. So, here’s to beginnings!

Have a great week of beginnings and blessings.

Love the dishes! It was a weird Christmas around here: All 3 boys were home, but (because of something that the 2 oldest said around Thanksgiving) there were no decorations up and I didn't do any of the preps/traditions like I usually do.
Happy New Year!

Love your list and especially the pattern on the dishes. But he quote is my favorite and I may put it on my blog if that is ok.

We didn't have everyone together on Christmas Day, but we all did get together later. I know that's the way it is as kids get older and we need to be flexible, but it is hard! But I am grateful for whatever time we can get as the kids establish their own homes.

I depend a lot on my husband and kids for help, too. So glad you had help with your project, and congrats on the neat new dishes!

Congrats on the new dishes! As a dish collector, my eye was drawn to them right away.

Sounds like you had a great week. I do love the quote, especially as I am really fond of "new beginnings."

It's good to know, even if our kids cannot be with US, that they are celebrating with people who love them. Glad you could have 2 of your boys at home for the holiday.

I'm curious to find out about your Christmas Eve......

LOVE the dishes!

Have a blessed 2012 and a fun-filled celebration of the new year.

New dishes are so fun! I know its hard to have some of your family far away, but it is comforting to know they are OK.

The quote is perfect for this week!

Ahem--I never met a dish I didn't like :) Love those!

Yes, having all the kids together was wonderful! I'm glad you had 2 of yours with you.

Happy New Year!

I love the new dishes! It looks like our husbands were both on the kitchen wavelength. I'm glad you had 2 of your boys with you. I'm sure that helped make the power and water problems more bearable. ;)

Happy New Year to you and your family. Thank you for the quote. You were definitely one of the blessings 2011 brought my way.

Don't you just love the weeks where five barely scratches the surface of faves? Your dishes are very pretty. I'm sure your boys are thinking of you even as they celebrate far away.
