A Tale to Tell

Friday March 22, 2013

Do you have a tale to tell?

I do love a good story, and my quote this week will tell you why.

I’m linking up with Susanne at Living to Tell the Story for Friday’s Fave Five, where we chronicle our blessings for the week.

Why not join us?

My favorites for this week:

1. A book. Well, that’s not uncommon, is it? (I see you smiling…) I read devoured an incredible book this week entitled The Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert by Rosaria Champagne Butterfield. I can’t say enough great things about it. I don’t know when a book has affected me as this one did. I’m already reading it through a second time with pencil in hand.

2. Eight weeks left—of school! We returned from Spring Break with nine weeks to go, and we've made it through one. The countdown has begun (while I frantically try to figure out how much I can fit into the remaining classroom time…)

3. College basketball! I grew up in Indiana (can you say “Hoosier Hysteria”?) and my dad made sure I shared his love of college basketball. I just completed my brackets yesterday—a combination of b-ball greats and sentimental favorites. It’s always fun to see who makes it to the big dance.

4. A facelift—for my blog, that is. Yes, it’s coming. I love my blog and it was wonderful for the launch of I’m Outnumbered, but I find I’m writing for a broader range than outnumbered moms. So I figured my “digs” should reflect that, especially since I’ll be unveiling a new project soon. (FFF friends, you’ll be the first to know!)

5. A quote:

“Fairy tales are more than true; not because they tell us dragons exist, but because they tell us dragons can be beaten.” (G.K. Chesterton)

If I had my choice of authors, minds, and poets to invite for a dinner party across the ages, oh, the group I’d assemble! And Mr. Chesterton would be at the top of the list. I wrote about the magic of story this week over at our Kindred Heart Writers site, and his quote has been rolling around in my brain ever since.

One of the best things about stories? They provide hope.

Here’s wishing you some spring hope this week.

Great quote. I haven't read much by G.K. Chesterton, but I keep meaning to.

A blog redesign is exciting! And Yay for only eight weeks of school to go!

Enjoy the weekend. :)

I've read a lot of great quotes by G. K. Chesterton, but I have never read anything else by him. I need to rectify that some day.

I've mentioned it before, but I loved that book by Butterfield, too. Definitely worth a reread.

Even though I only have one still in school, and he's in college, I love the countdown to the end of the school year.

Love that quote! And that book your read, I saw reviewed I think on Barbara's blog and I made note of it then. I'll have to make a point now of looking for it.

"Redecorating" is always exciting. Looking forward to that first peek! I'm excited for your new surprise too! You're keeping us in suspense! :v)

When I read your comment about 8 weeks of school, I got up and looked at my school calender to check how many weeks I have left. Same as you! Eight weeks. And the next two are my spring break.
So many books, so many authors, so little time! How do I choose???
I'll be teaching fairy tales in my class in May :)

You always have the best quote. Love that one. I may have to swipe it ;-)

I've read the short version of that remarkable story. God works in amazing ways. I never tire of hearing of His creativity.

Hurray for week count downs!
