A Week Full of Gifts: Friday's Fave Five

July 2, 2010Time to look back at the blessings of the week. Thanks to Susanne at Living to Tell the Story for hosting this each week. Be sure to visit Susanne if you’d like to join in.

Here are the blessings of my week:

1. Lunch with friends. One of my writing buddies (a member of Kindred Heart Writers) was visiting the same conference I was, and we met and had lunch together. We live states away from each other, and it was such a joy to see her sweet smile and get a hug! Then, days later, I got to spend time with my college roommate. Great times.

2. More books. At the same event, I got a bunch of new (free) books, and many were signed by the authors. Really neat. What a stack I have to look forward to!

3. The beauty of God's creation. The air is cool here, and things are oh-so-green. I love God's lush, lovely creation.

4. My brain on travel. This may "date" me -- but remember that commercial that said, "This is your brain. This is your brain on drugs"? Well, my version would say: "This is my brain. This is my brain on travel" ... and then you'd see ping pong balls bouncing off the inside of my head. Travel is such an amazing thing. It seems to just release the ideas so they go bouncing around inside my head. Time plus travel results in contemplation and creativity. I love it!

5. Thought gifts from the past. My mom has found articles, stories, poems, devotional thoughts this week that were laid aside by my grandmother years ago. What gifts from the past, what seeds for the future.

Hope your week was a lovely one. Looking ahead to more blessings!

While the rest of us are becoming blue on academic stuff, I think you're lucky to be writing, may I guess (but I could be wrong), creative non-fiction? Your brain on travel appeals to me. It's lovely to have God's creation so evident around us. And your Grandma's gifts - how precious!

That last one sounds like an absolute treasure trove!

Lunch with friends and new books are great faves, as is appreciating the beauty of God's creation.

My brain doesn't react the same yours does during travel. I wish it did!

I always find it interesting to see what quotes, letters and poems, etc. a person has collected. Collections define you!

Sounds like you had a busy, thought-provoking week!

"Thought gifts" - those are wonderful. My mum kept lots of notebooks she called "nothing books" filled with clippings, notes jotted down, outlines of talks she heard, etc. They are sure treasures today for us.

Do I dare admit I totally remember that commercial? LOL.

How nice that you were able to meet with friends you haven't seen for a while.

With all the rain this spring it is very green around here, too. I love it.

A great week meeting a friend, traveling and enjoying memories of loved ones. Isn't it something that the effort put into traveling seems to provide much more in return? Thanks for the reminder that travel can open up the brain to good ideas and creative thinking. I always dread getting ready and the travel part, but always learn so much and have fun, you'd think I would get over the bad attitudes! Have a good week!

This is one of my favorite of your Fave Five weeks. Each one was a tremendous blessing, especially your grandmother's legacy. What a treasure.
