On My Son's First Father's Day

Sunday June 19, 2011

On my son’s first Father’s Day, I find myself grateful for a parade of fathers.

First, there is his own—the one I love so. Tears spring to my eyes as I try to put words to how much he means to me.

He fathers so well. With love and kindness and humor. Most of all, with faith and integrity. His influences—his father and grandfathers—have played into who he is today.

And so the fathering continues, is passed down from one generation to another. I’m thankful for all the good things shared and for all the grace applied where men slip and fall. For none are perfect but one Father.

Can you see the parade? Ever grateful for that long line of dads, especially those with their eyes on the Father.

Happy Father's Day to all of your loved ones! How does it feel being on the other end of things? I was shopping for cards yesterday and realized that if I got one for each of the fathers I'm directly connected to, and then a card for the ones my hubby owes, and then one for each of the ones my daughter owes... Well, I'd buy out the whole store. Then the realization hit that it must be odd for the parents to watch their kids be honored on these days--the children who made them parents becoming parents themselves. It blew my mind a little. Anyway, I'll stop rambling and just with you and yours a Happy Father's Day!

Ummm.... is this your son? You look wayyy too young to have a son with a son. I might believe the baby is yours!

Touching post.
