One Thing

Monday June 11, 2012

I have a list. Don’t you?

And sometimes it seems like all I do is ask.

Oh, it’s not all for me…directly. I pray for others, too.

But a psalm I read today struck me.

“One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock. Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the Lord.” (Psalm 27: 4-6)

One thing I ask of the Lord?

Look at what that one thing is: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.

Dwell. On him.
Gaze. On him.
Seek. Him.

Then all those other requests, questions, worries?

They’ll fade, in His light.

If we would just get back to the basics of what God tells us to do, we would find his blessings raining down on us. Thanks for making this so simple for us to see, Laura! Great post!

Wonderful reminder. We are so easily distracted--and so greedy/discontent! Thank you.
