The Fire

Monday August 27, 2012

Please, no more refining.

I just want to step away from the fire.

My eyes cast about for a glimpse of the smooth path—the one that leads away from the searing, crackling flame.

I ache for quiet, for calm, for what my mind labels “normal.”

I see a friend over there in the no fire zone. She catches my eye and shakes her head ever so slightly. Her face tells me:

It’s empty here, devoid of His essence.
It’s cold, lacking His warmth.
And it’s dark, with His light so far away.

I can’t.
I long for His presence, His warmth, His light.

So I open my hand, and here I stand.

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” (Isaiah 43:2)

Great word! We shouldn't back away from the refining process ... yet it is so tempting to do so ...

so achingly true. He cares about prospering our inward places, doesn't He? Clinging to that promise that He never leaves us alone.

thanks for sharing this. So true, we look to the easy way but we need the refiner's fire.
