Out of the Comfort Zone

Friday September 7, 2012

Another four day week. I sure could get used to this!

I’m linking up today with Susanne for Friday’s Fave Five, where we share our blessings of the week.

Here are mine:

1. Literature.
I’m taking a couple more classes this fall, and we’re delving into literature. I just love it. It’s so fascinating to look at ancient cultures, read their words, realize that the hole in the human heart is the same one we feel today. And to see the gesture toward redemption even before Christ walked the earth—that’s really something!

2. Sweet students. Oh, they’re not all easy kids, but there are a few very special ones every year. Some who stop by my room almost every day just to chat, see how my day was, to share news. It’s great.

3. Beauty from ashes. That’s what He does. In the wake of (and in the midst of) tough times, I don’t have a new project quite yet, but I have the seeds of one. I’m thankful for that gift—and praying for more inspiration!

4. Yoplait Orange Crème yogurt. I eat a little yogurt every day, and I’ve discovered a new, yummy flavor. With this, I don’t even need a dessert. I think I’m eating an orange creamsicle!

5. This quote:

“If we’re growing, we’re always going to be out of our comfort zone.” (John Maxwell)

I’m not real comfortable right now on a couple of fronts…but it’s growing time. And I’d rather be growing than sitting stale on the shelf.

What about you? How was your week? Are you growing…somewhere?

So glad you're enjoying your students and classes. the yogurt sounds good - I'll have to look for it up here.

A great quote! I'll be praying for you Laura - for inspiration and grace.

That is so true...the quote! I agree about the right food eliminates the need for dessert.

Looking forward to learning how your seeds grow...

Love that quote by Maxwell. I'm reminded of another quote (I think Joyce Meyer said it), "God cares more about your character than your comfort."

I think stretching us is always His plan!

On another note, I could get used to 4 day work weeks, too. My daughter and I were just saying that the other day. We think we would be more productive with an extra day off ... what do you think?

The Lit. classes sound neat!

I love four-day work weeks, too.

Glad you have a few special students this year.

My husband loves to mix in mandarin oranges with that Orange Creme yogurt.

I generally like my comfort zone all too well, but I know that I need to stretch outside of it to grow. Though it is uncomfortable and scary, it is worth it in the long run.

I'd come and sit in your Lit. class. I love how we can travel back in time through words.

that's a great quote, i will remember this one.

p.s. I'm blessed that you are able to recognize that you are going through some growth in your life right now.

yay for new students! and that is the VERY yogurt I eat!!! I was not a yogurt fan, just never could stomach it and then my doc said i had to add it to my diet to get extra calcium. My husband suggested the yoplait orange creme and I'm hooked! I usually get it in the "light" and add granola. Enjoy your weekend, Laura!!

love the quote and such an encouraging post. I always said: I am leaving my comfort zone and falling to the arms of the Comforter

Transformation can be uncomfortable, can't it. Whatever is happening in your growing zone, I'm hoping good things for you. I think those kids recognize your love and interest in them.
