When we can't...

Tuesday February 26, 2013

What do we do when we feel like we can’t?

We can’t go on.
We can’t face what’s looming ahead.
We can’t do what God has called us to do.

Moses helps me. Because, like me, he made excuses. (Exodus 3 and 4)

He was told to lead 2 million people, and he said:

“I’m not qualified.”
What did God say? “I’ll be with you.”

“What will I say?”
God said, “I AM who I AM.” I am all you need, Moses.

“I’m not prepared.”
As God commanded him to pick up the staff, Moses watched it take on a new shape.
“With me, all things are new.”

“I can’t speak,” protested Moses.
God answered, “Who made you, Moses? Who knows what you can do?”

“I can’t go,” Moses said.
Scripture tells us God’s anger burned…but then he offered help to Moses through his brother, Aaron.

When I feel like I can’t go on, too often I stew in my worry and woe. Inside in my own little pity party, things just seem worse and worse.

Moses presented his worries and fears to God and, in the face of God, he found reassurance, help, and courage.

He turned and headed back to Egypt, into the center of controversy in Pharoah’s palace.

But he didn’t go alone, and he carried the staff of new life as a symbol of “all things new.”

We often wonder how the disciples could have walked with Jesus and seen his miraculous power day after day and still not have known.

Yet I walk amid “all things new every day”—I live “all things new,” and I still find myself echoing Moses’ excuses.

So, when I can’t? I turn to the One who can.

The I AM.

The very picture of all things new.

This is a good reminder. I like how the fears of Moses really are applicable to us today. Thanks.

I'm echoing those words in my heart today too, Laura Lee ... because I sure do have my share of insecurities. But God has been so faithful to me. I saw His amazing work just the other day in a very challenging situation that I know He walked with me through. Thanks for this extra dose of encouragement, my friend! And thanks again for linking up with WW too! Hugs to you!

The kids and I were studying this same theme this morning, except as it applied to Moses' successor, Joshua. Thanks for delivering God's word today. It is definitely something God wants me to here.

Laura,
Well said. When we echo Moses' excuses let us remember what God did through him. So He can do the same through us.
Blessings,
Janis
