Resting in Him

Resting? In Him?

I have an issue with waiting. I wrote about it earlier this week.

But I’m learning … gradually … that waiting time isn’t wasted time.

My quote today, Fave #5, says it much better than I can.

I’m recounting the week’s blessings today, linking up for Friday’s Fave Five.

My favorites this week:

1. Teenagers. I really do love teaching high school. Love those kids.

2. A thank you. I got an email thank you from a student this week, and that doesn’t happen every day. A student wrote sweet things I would not have suspected. Made me smile.

3. The Groves girls. I love my daughters-in-law! They’re just real keepers. If you need to talk (to someone other than a male in my family), you just text and say, “Can you talk?” For years, I’ve had only boys to talk to. This is SO nice.

4. Words and pictures from my international son. My youngest is in Russia, and I’ve seen pictures and gotten texts and emails, and I’m so thankful for that. It’s just GREAT to hear from him.
  5. This quote:

"Give God His glory by resting in Him, by trusting Him fully, by waiting patiently for Him. This patience honors Him greatly. It leaves Him, as God on the throne, to do His work. It yields self wholly into His hands. It lets God be God."  (Andrew Murray)

Yes, I do have an issue with waiting. It seems I feel I must DO something. What am I thinking? That I’d do a better job than the Creator, the One who loves me more than anyone else?

I forget that waiting doesn’t take Him by surprise; it’s part of His plan, and although I can’t see things happening, the time is being used by God.

Hoping you’ll find peace as you wait this week,

It takes a very special person to teach High School. And be good at it and loved by the kids. There are so many who are so off course that it is hard to deal with them while teaching the ones who really want to learn. And I thank you for making a difference in these kids lives. There are a few in our high school that our kids really love and look up to!
Glad to hear your youngest is keeping in touch. It can be hard to do when there are so many new things to see and do.
Hope you have a great weekend!

How neat to get a letter from a former student!

I know what you mean about it being nice to have a girl in a family of all boys. And it's neat you have that kind of relationship with your d-i-ls that you can get together and talk.

It is indeed hard to wait, but I am so thankful God is in control though ti seems to be behind the scenes sometimes.

Yay for letters from former students and yay for your son being over in Russia....my youngest is jealous :)
Love that quote and it is SOOOO true..thanks for sharing your thoughts on it. Sometimes it CAN be hard to just wait on God. But His plans are always perfect for us when we are willing to let Him control our paths. Happy weekend Laura!

A wonderful blessing to enjoy your daughters in law! Waiting is a hard thing for me, too. Good quote to ponder. Love the photo from Russia. What an experience your son will be enjoying...

What a blessing it is to your school teenagers that you enjoy them. This impacts their learning and their opinion of themselves. Thanks.

That is a great opportunity for your son. I imagine this will be life-changing. And how cool that you get first hand reporting from someone there.

I am praying that I can honor God this week with my patience. Great reminder, Laura.

You are a very special person to be able to teach high school. I'm sure the kids feel your passion for them. Sweet picture of you and "your" girls. And I love the quote. Lots to ponder on as to how it relates to me!!

Getting a thank you from a student is truly a blessing. I love it when it happens to me. Probably I get a few more than you do since I teach younger ones who still think it's cool to like their teachers.
Hearing from an international son was on my fave list too!

Powerful and timely quote for ones who must WAIT!

Wonderful photo from your Russian traveler. And I love that you enjoy your students and not merely tolerate them ;-)

I love Andrew Murray - he must be my favourite devotional/theological writer, along with Dallas Willard. A beautiful quote from him. I find waiting hard too although I've had a lot of it to do. I think I've become a little better at it. It really does boil down to trusting just as that quote says.

A thank you note from a high school student - precious!

And your dear dils - I feel the same way about mine.

And time with your boy via skype. I'm so grateful for that too

have a great week Laura!

That quote is a humbling reminder- I definitely need to learn to wait on the Lord.
What a lovely picture from your son. Glad you got to communicate with him while he's so far away!
Teenagers are such fun! We have worked with the youth in our church for years and just love when our home is packed with Jr and Sr Highers- they are delightfully exuberant. :o)
