God's Love Shines Through

Wednesday March 12, 2014

The road was a rocky one, but He held our hands, leading us to redemption.

What began as a harrowing day ultimately illumined our lives.

In the face of distress, it felt like I was cracking in a million little pieces…but His love shone through.

Come on over to Adelle’s place, where I’m telling the story of tragedy redeemed today as part of her Illuminated Life series.

A Brand New Babe

Tuesday June 7, 2011
I got to hold such a sweet little one today. He has no idea how blessed he already is.

He had a birth mom whose one desire is that he would know she knows Christ. He has a life mom and dad who have poured themselves out over and over again – mentoring a young disadvantaged man, taking in three brothers and becoming foster parents overnight. They’ve lived a life of giving and last week, they got the sweetest gift.

We sat and fed him and burped him and oohed and aahed over him. I was happy she got a son so I could share my book with her. We looked at all his sweet fingers and toes, pulled out all the cute clothes waiting for him.

It was a wonderful afternoon.

I left with such a feeling of fullness and joy, and I know this couple is filled to the brim with the same.

When we come to the Father, how much more does He joy over us.

"See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!" (I John 3:1)

Multifaceted Love

Thursday April 7, 2011

God is love.

It’s easy to say, but I too often speak those words with my narrow little glasses on.

Speaking of God as love is easy; it’s easily accepted by those around us. But I too often speak in that little Minnie Mouse voice. You know, the one that lacks conviction and power.

My conception of Him as love is flat and bland and cardboard until I step back and gaze at all the facets of God. Then I see His love more clearly, more powerfully.

Through the lens of His holiness, I marvel that He could love one with so little devotion.

Through the lens of His power, I stand amazed that in the midst of all He commands, He stops to listen and love me.

I look to my left and right, I gaze up and down and am stunned by His omnipresence. His love for me is magnified as see myself, a time-bound, one-dimensional creature. Yet He is everywhere, in all--yet He loves me.

His justice? Many of us fear it. It’s what keeps some from Him. But His justice mirrors love to me. With one hand He maintains the justice that makes Him God and with the other He clears a path and reaches down to me. Out of His justice, His son pays the price so this daughter might know His love.

So I gaze on Him in all His glory. His holiness, His power. His omnipresence, His justice. And the light of His love is palpable—bright, bold, vivid.

Real.

Love and Comfort Zones

Thursday February 17, 2010

I’m warm and comfy.
I settle in, nestle.
Something catches my eye and I glance up. Then I feel a nudge.
I shove it away and close my eyes to the light.
I hunker down and nestle deeper.
The nudge returns, stronger, but I shift my weight, find a soft spot, and pull the cover up.

But the warmth dissipates. The cover’s protection wanes.
That light I shut my eyes against? I feel its warmth.
And the nudge? When I look closely, I see it’s a hand.

When I reach out, I’m bathed in the warmth of the light and gripped by a warm, strong hand.
Supported by love, I step from my comfort zone.

What am I learning about God’s love? It’s there, it’s warm and faithful.
It nudges me from my comfort zone, but I don’t step out alone.
