Fall Favorites: Friday's Fave Five

Friday September 16, 2011

Can you name five blessings from your week? Susanne from Living to Tell the Story hosts Friday’s Fave Five each week. Click on over and see her if you’d like to join in!

Here are my favorites from this week:

1. Learning.
I start my week in class, every Monday evening. And I’m really enjoying it! I think I’m a lifelong student…

2. Little potatoes. I found these little potatoes and a new recipe, Parmesan Potatoes. My husband loves them, and so do I.

3. A new (to me) author. I’m reading The House at Riverton by Kate Morton, and I love Morton’s writing. The story is fascinating, too.

4. Cooler (?) temperature (?). There’s a reason for those double question marks—I’m not sure it’s really cooler. They say the lower humidity makes it feel cooler. All I can say is, it’s nice. It feels much better, and I sure hope it lasts. Those temperatures, plus my apple cinnamon candle in the classroom, make me anticipate fall!

5. A quote. “Character may be manifested in the great moments, but it is made in the small ones.” (Phillips Brooks)

Little things mean a lot. They add up to a lifetime of character. What we moms do and encourage and reinforce makes a difference.

Hope this finds you enjoying cooler temperatures, too. Have a great week ahead!

What a delightful post! I, too, am a lifelong learner. About 15 years ago, I told my dad if only someone would pay for it, I would stay in college for the rest of my life and study all sorts of interesting things. Fortunately, I later realized I CAN LEARN all by myself! :)

Potatos--mmmm, comfort food for these, yes, MUCH cooler days here in NE Missouri! And I have such a long list of books I "want to read". . .sigh, but guess I'll add Morton to that list! chuckle

But best of all--that quote! Wow! Thanks for sharing, I have a feeling it's going to find it's way into a talk my hubby is working on to share with the church! :)

The potatoes sound delish. I don't think I've found a potato dish I don't like. I'll have to try this since it is an easy recipe. And it looks fairly reasonable calorie-wise.

So glad, Laura, you are enjoying your Monday night class. I am a life-long learner too. I mostly do this on my own, but I always appreciate the chance to learn alongside others who have the same passion.

Those little parmesan potatoes sound real good. Glad the weather has improved in comfort for you. I'm enjoying the cool down, too, especially because I enjoy wearing flannel bottoms to relax in the evening...
Have a great weekend.

That book sounds like a good one! I put it on my TBR list.

I love feeling cooler, whether it is the temperatures or the lower humidity.

I'm glad you're enjoying your class. I'm sure I'll be back in school one day. I'm always watching documentaries, researching, and learning more about well, everything!

I'm enjoying another beautiful day here, too. I love it!

Thanks for the new recipe, and your great post over at MOB!

Love the quote and it reinforces some thoughts on character that I've been reading lately.

We're definitely moving into fall weather and I'm getting the itch to get out the fall decorating and the fall scented candles.

I've got that book in my book basket. I might just have to bump it up in the queue.

I consider myself a lifelong student too. It’s a great way to live. I’ll have to check out the recipe for Parmesan Potatoes. Anything with potatoes is yummy to me. Love the quote; so true! Have a great weekend, Laura.

What a coincidence; I'm reading Kate Morton, too. Or, rather, I'm listening to the audio version of her book The Distant Hours. So nice that you getting some cooler temps (we are too!). A really terrific quote, Laura. Hope your weekend was a good one.
